Hollow terp pillars offer slightly more surface area for the dab to be spread being that the interior of the pillar can be coated with the dab. Hollow terp pillars are also slightly better at catching the airflow, making them spin around that much easier. Hollow Terp Pillar FAQ's
Terp pillars are a necessary banger accessory for control tower bangers and terp slurper bangers. They function similarly to terp pearls and terp pillars, helping to evenly spread the dab against the walls of the banger for uniform vaporization. Terp pillars spread dabs better than terp pearls and pillars due to the size.
There are two different style of terp pillars, Solid Terp Pillars and Hollow Terp Pillars. Solid terp pillars are one piece of quartz glass or some other gemstones, like ruby, sapphire, or moissanite. Hollow terp pillars are hollow, like a straw. The main differences between the two are as follows:
Hollow terp pillars allow for some of the dab to fall inside the middle hollow portion of the terp pillar, this results in less of the dab being spread at one time. Spreading less of the dab at once causes less of the dab to be vaporized, resulting in a smoother and more elongated vaporization time. For those with larger inhalation capacity, this can be a great way to smooth out larger dabs for even heating.
It’s also great for lower temperatures to slowly saturate the banger with the dab, allowing for the vaporization rate to remain steady as the dab is being vaporized.
The right size for a Terp Pillar depends on the size of your banger. For Terp Slurpers and control tower bangers, the pillar diameter should be no more than half the diameter of the lower chamber, and the pillar height should be no more than 75% of the chamber height. This lets the banger spin properly without putting too much pressure on the middle marble and pushing it up.
We’ve already explained the benefits of utilizing a hollow terp pillar; they offer a more elongated vaporization period, which can smoothen the dab even more. The next level of understanding is smooth surfaces versus etched surface terp pillars.
Smooth terp pillars push the dab and do not allow the dab to be in between the pillar and the glass; think of it like a squeegee. Whereas with an etch pillar, the grooves on the pillar provide space for the dab to sit when the pillar is moving along the walls of the banger.
The dab sits between the pillar and the glass, spreading evenly and being squeezed between the pillar and banger wall for even more spreading.
