How to Use a Quartz Banger and How to Maintain a Quartz Banger

A quartz banger is one of the best innovations to hit the dabbing scene. The right quartz banger heats your concentrates evenly, preserves their delicious terpene-rich flavor and allows for a much more user-friendly and intuitive way to experience the act of dabbing in general.

While the look of a quartz banger indicates that it’s a pretty straightforward accessory, using it requires a bit more knowledge than you may think. It behaves differently than a traditional dab nail, which is why it’s important to know how to use it ahead of time. Not only that, but it has specific maintenance needs that allow it to continue satisfying your dabbing desires.

ENail vs Torch

Seasoning Your Quartz Banger

When you first get your new quartz banger, before you can properly begin dabbing, you should season it. This is similar to seasoning a new cast-iron pan to remove any residue that it accumulated while in a warehouse. It also enhances the surface of the material to allow the oils of the concentrates to create a micro-coating that can benefit your flavor experience.

To season your quartz banger, you want to properly connect it to the joint of your rig. Then, heat it with a butane torch until it turns red. Keep in mind it won’t turn as bright red as it will in later sessions, as the glowing comes from the oil residue accumulated over multiple dabs. Be careful to only heat the bottom surface only and not the joint itself which can cause damage. Remove the torch once it does turn red.

Now, you have a seasoned banger that’s ready to go.

Enail vs. Torch

A quartz banger can be heated in one of two ways from which you must decide. The first method is the use of a butane torch which supplies heat to the banger manually, similarly to how you season the banger. The alternative is an enail, which is an electronic device that attaches to your rig and provides consistent temperature to the banger at an output level you select. Enails are preferred by many because they provide precise temperature control and require less effort, but some dabbers still enjoy a more traditional setup with a torch.

Choosing the Right Dabbing Style

There are two ways to dab: low-temp dabbing and high-temp dabbing. Low-temp is considered 315-450 degrees, and high temp is 450-600 degrees. Lower than 315 degrees won’t properly activate the compounds, producing minimal vapor and going above 600 degrees can cause a lot of harshness while burning certain desirable compounds in your concentrate.

Choose low-temp dabbing if you want a lot of flavor and less potency. Choose high-temp dabbing if you are more interested in getting huge hits and stronger potency levels. When using a torch it is rather difficult to guess what temperature your banger is at, take the guess work out of it with one of our laser banger temp readers, specifically designed to read the temperature of your quartz banger.

How to Dab with a Quartz Banger

Now that you have a seasoned banger and an idea of how you want to experience your concentrates, you can begin the process of dabbing.

Step #1: Either with your torch or enail, allow the banger to heat up prior to placing any concentrates inside of it. With a torch, usually it takes about 30-45 seconds for the banger to glow. If you’re using an enail, you’ll be notified when the banger has reached temperature. Wait another 30-45 seconds for the banger to cool and try to memorize the number of seconds so that you can remember for the next time to take out the guesswork.

You can tell whether or not you allowed the banger to cool for the proper length of time by paying attention to the hit and what’s inside the banger. If it tastes burnt, you didn’t allow for enough cooling time. If the oils in the concentrate start pooling up, you let it cool too much. The entire process of using a banger does require some trial and error in order to get the best results for your use case.

Step #2: Once your banger has been heated and cooled properly, you can use a dab tool to transfer your concentrates into the banger. Place the concentrates at the base of the banger so they don’t accumulate on the sides, where they can turn into gunk instead of properly converting into vapor. The amount of concentrate appropriate for your banger depends on its size and shape, and may take some time to get the hang of. But, you don’t want to pack it in tightly and/or fill it all the way to the top.

Step #3: Now, you can put your carb cap on top of the banger before taking a hit. The carb cap improves airflow for more concentrated hits. You should enjoy a nice terpene flavor along with smooth vapor that’s non-irritating, but thick and abundant enough to give you a solid pull. If you’re totally new to dabbing, we recommend sticking with just one puff per session the first few times as the potency level may be a lot for beginners and even for experienced flower users.

Maintaining a Quartz Banger

In addition to knowing how to use a banger, you also need to know how to maintain it. We strongly recommend cleaning it after each session, as the buildup of residue from dabbing can interfere with flavor. To clean it, remove it from the joint and soak it in one of the cleaning solutions available on QuartzBanger.com or you can make your own at home solution with isopropyl alcohol, salt and water, let the solution sit for at least 30 minutes before wiping it down with a cotton swab and giving it a rinse. Please note to  Never use household cleaners or abrasive materials as this is both bad for the banger and can be dangerous to your health when using the banger again. By cleaning it after each session, you’ll be rewarded with magnificent flavor time and time again.

A Quartz Banger Can Bring Enjoyment to Your dabbing sessions.

Overall, using a quartz banger can allow for more even heating so that you experience some fuller, richer vapor, along with more complex and cleaner flavor. Plus, it holds more product than most nails, for more thorough dabbing sessions. Now that you know how to properly prepare, use, and maintain a quartz banger, you can really reap the benefits of this innovative accessory to take your dabs to new heights of satisfaction.
